Iversen jumps at chance to return to Norfolk Arena

King’s Lynn racer Niels-Kristian Iversen believes the Stars can top last season’s notable Elite League achievements.

The Norfolk Arena outfit club were the surprise packages back in the top flight with a third place finish ensuring they reached the play-offs before losing to eventual winners Poole.

Iversen needed little persuasion to re-join Danish World Team Cup compatriot Mads Korneliussen and David Howe as confirmed signings for the 2012 campaign.

“It feels very good, I enjoyed the year there so I’m pleased to be back,” he said. “2011 is a good year to build on and I believe it’s the place for me to take my riding a step further.

“I felt very welcome at King’s Lynn and it’s a cool place to be with such a good atmosphere. I know what to do now and we can start to get my gear together.”

The double World Cup winner’s British return comes after Iversen had already agreed terms with Indianerna in the Swedish Elitserien, Gorzow in the Polish Ekstraliga and Esbjerg in Denmark. Korneliussen also believes Saddlebow is the perfect environment to take his career to another level after making his World Team Cup bow last summer.

“I’m really pleased to be back,” he said. “There was nowhere else I wanted to go, I didn’t want to go back to Swindon and I had a good chat with Rosco (Alun Rossiter, Swindon team manager) about it and we both came to the decision that it was best for me to stay at King’s Lynn because i’ve had a successful year and we can build on that.”

Meanwhile, former King’s Lynn Stars ace and double World Under-21 champion Darcy Ward has declined the offer of a permanent wild card to next year’s Grand Prix series. Hans Andersen will take Ward’s place in the series.
