Maciej Janowski came back to haunt the Swindon Robins as he passed Hans Andersen in the final corner of heat 15 to grab a dramatic draw for the Stars last night.
King’s Lynn had narrowly led for almost the entire meeting at Blunsdon, before the Robins secured a 5-1 in heat 14 to set up what looked like a seventh straight home win on a night where they seemed second best away from the tapes.
But the young Pole had other ideas and rounded Andersen in the final corner for third place to claim two vital Elite League points for Rob Lyon’s side.
Janowski scored 11 points with Niels-Kristian Iversen picking up 12 to make sure of the win, and the pair were ably supported by Daniel Nermark and Mads Korneliussen, who both scored eight.
The Robins took the lead for the first time in heat three when Simon Stead roared around former Robin Janowski to claim a 4-2 for his side, but they were soon behind as the meeting swung dramatically in favour of the visitors.
Things looked ominous as Dawid Lampart took himself into the fence at the start of the second lap in heat four, and Nermark won the re-run with ease ahead of Peter Kildemand as the Stars levelled things up.
Iversen completely out-muscled Stead at the start of heat five, and the Dane took an easy win with partner Korneliussen right behind to give his side the lead.
Following an unsatisfactory start in heat six, Nermark made the drop to win from the tapes despite pressure from Andersen, who almost made it past the Swede on two occasions before settling for second.
Janowski showed he still knows his way around the Abbey in heat seven, before Lampart closed the gap for the home side with a good win over Nermark.
Young Janowski again showed his huge potential with victory over Andersen in heat 10, but the Robins secured a 3-3 to stay in touch. The gap was widened again in the next heat as Korneliussen secured another three points for his side, but the deficit was reduced to two once again as Lampart beat Janowski with Stead in third.
Iversen took the honours in heat 13 with Kildemand and Andersen packing the minor places to keep their side in contention, but it looked as though the Robins had done enough to keep up their 100pc home record as Batchelor and Lampart secured a vital 5-1 in heat 14. But the Robins hearts were soon broken by Janowski.
