King’s Lynn Stars’ hierarchy have left the door open for Mads Korneliussen to make a comeback at the Norfolk Arena.

The Danish ace was left devastated when team boss Rob Lyon and owner Buster Chapman decided there wasn’t a place for him in their 2014 line-up. But the pair were quick to declare at a packed fans’ forum that the popular rider’s days in Norfolk are not definitely over.

Lyon said: “As you all know we took the decision to allow Mads Korneliussen to leave the club. It was not an easy decision.

“Mads is a 100pc guy and he’s been a great servant to the club and it was a hard phone call Buster had to make to tell him he wouldn’t be part of the plans. But you have to do what’s right for the club sometimes, or always obviously.

“He’s been part and parcel of this club for three years and we’d like to thank him for that and I’m sure that deserves a round of applause (which heartily followed).

“That’s not to say he won’t form part of a King’s Lynn team in the future, obviously that’s always open to possibilities.”

The 30-year-old, who has captained the Stars for the past two seasons, this week announced he would be riding for Elite League new-boys Leicester Lions.

And even though during his testimonial year in British speedway Korneliussen will be riding a long way up the A47, Chapman and his co-promoter Lyon both insist they would still be keen to hold the event to celebrate the Scandinavian’s service to the sport in this country.

“A couple of riders are due testimonials next year,” said Lyon.

“Mainly Rory Schlein and Mads Korneliussen. And even though obviously Mads has moved on to Leicester, Buster did discuss his testimonial with him. If he wants it at King’s Lynn, Buster is more than happy to hold it for him. I presume he’ll probably take him up on that offer and it may well be one of the first meetings of the season.”
