He may have been sporting a new tan and a fresh haircut, but it was still the same old Jordan Yong on Saturday.
King’s Lynn Town’s explosive left-back returned from holiday to play his first pre-season game of the summer against Wroxham.
And once again the 22-year-old was in fine form, bombing forward, and looking anything but a player who had missed three matches and a handful of training sessions.
Yong said: “I was a bit worried about myself because I’d had a week off in the sun and the lads have had three games while I’ve been away.
“So I was quite wary of starting. However, I got off to a good start, made some forward runs and to be honest I felt pretty good.
“Overall I was just happy to get 90 minutes under my belt.
“I’ll admit I got the missus to check out to see if the hotel had a gym. So I did a little bit, not loads, while I was away.
“I had no alcohol and watched what I ate. But to be fair I always try and keep myself in ok shape anyway.”
That shape must have impressed Setchell, who used his diminutive defender in an unusual central-midfield role during the second half while giving him a full 90-minute run out.
Yong said: “It was very unusual to play there.
“When I first signed for Wisbech, when the gaffer was there, he tried me out just behind the front two and it didn’t work out.
“Obviously he’s found my best position is left-back, but I think he put me in there to keep my legs going. Pre-season is all about getting 90 minutes under your belt and I enjoyed it.
“Quigs (Quigley) and Bunts (Bunting) were absolutely brilliant in the middle and I knew Jamie Forshaw from when I trialled at Southend so it was good to see them all in action. It’s nice to be back.”
King’s Lynn Town have this afternoon boosted their attacking options for next season by signing Coalville Town’s Ryan Robbins.
