King’s Lynn Town have unveiled plans to launch an official ‘Friends of the Linnets’ supporters’ club to coincide with the 2011/12 kick off.
A special launch is set fo The Walks stadium on Saturday, July 2 at an open day event (noon to 4pm).
‘Friends of the Linnets’ is being run by a committee of fans who volunteered their services via the club’s Facebook page. Local businessman Andy Wilson - who oversaw the club’s merchandise operation last season - will become head of the committee.
“I have really enjoyed seeing the club grow over the past 15 months,” he said. “I think that the Friends will not only be a way for the fans to become officially associated with the club, but it will also be a good support network that is on hand to help the club when needed.”
Committee members volunteered to use their expertise in areas such as fund-raising, promotion and advertising, away travel and programme editing. Club chairman Keith Chapman is excited about the launch of an official supporters club.
“I know it has taken a year to happen but the fans will see that it has been worth the wait,” he said. “The committee are all like-minded people who have the intention of helping the club, leaving politics aside, and appreciating what has been achieved so far. They simply want to help the club to move forward.”
The Friends have already set their sights on their first fundraising project, a new disabled viewing area.
“The chairman has made it clear that he does not want any of the money we raise donated directly to the club,” said committee member, Jamie Heaphey. “Instead he wishes for the Friends to have their own projects into which the fans and members have an input and which they will consequently appreciate more. One of the committee’s targets is to raise funds for a new undercover disabled viewing area as the old one is too small.
“Once installed, this will allow our disabled fans to continue to enjoy their football when the cold winter months arrive.”
For a £5 membership fee you will receive an official membership card, 10% discount on club merchandise, monthly newsletters via email, discounted tickets for fundraising events, priority seating for away match coach travel and priority tickets for any high demand football matches. For an additional £5 members can also subscribe to a results service which will deliver away game results by text message within minutes of the final whistle.
• To coincide with the launch of ‘Friends of the Linnets’, the club’s new official web site will go live at 9am on Friday. The site has been kindly built and sponsored by Swaffham Design who have also successfully re-designed the King’s Lynn Stars site in recent months.
