King’s Lynn Town will finish their season in little more than 24 hours – but boss Gary Setchell is already thinking about the future.

The Linnets will claim at least a top-half finish in their first Evo-Stik Premier Division campaign following back-to-back promotions, regardless of their result at play-off hopefuls AFC Fylde. And the man who has mastermined the reformed club’s rise up the non-league ladder feels they have learned enough this campaign to become a force to be reckoned with next.

Setchell said: “We’ve had some great results this year. And if we can continue to get the great results, and we can nick one or two of the close games that we’ve lost and turn some of the beatings into closer games, we’ll have a great chance of doing better than what we’ve done this year.

“This football club is at the level it should be. There’s a lot of big hitters in this division. The top four (Chorley, FC United, Fylde and Worksop) you’d have to say are the four big hitters. They’re in good areas, we’re out in the sticks, but we’ll just keep doing our best.

“Ashton (fifth) have done remarkably well this season to get into the play-offs. Why can’t that be King’s Lynn next year that does remarkably well to get into the play-offs? We’ll try and progress next season, as we have done every season, and next year I’ll be looking to go up one or two places more.”

Lynn sit 10th and could finish as high as eighth if results go their way tomorrow. The lowest they can finish is 12th. Fylde, third, can no longer win the league and look likely to finish behind one or both of leaders Chorley and FC United.
