Goals from Jamie Forshaw and Danny Beaumont helped a much-changed Lynn keep their hot streak going at Kidsgrove Athletic.
The Linnets picked up their seventh win on the bounce - their sixth consecutive triumph in the league - despite making five changes from the side which ended Coalville’s unbeaten start to the season on Tuesday.
Gary Setchell was forced to name ‘Long Buckby boys’ Richard Bunting, Jason Lee, Russell Dunkley and Dan Quigley on the subs’ bench after they got caught up in traffic following an accident on the M1. And to make matters worse midweek goalscorer Jason Turner was also missing due to his own wedding. The quintet were replaced in The Walks outfit’s starting XI by Dan Buhlemann, Ryan Fryatt, Pat Bexfield, Forshaw and Beaumont.
The delayed foursome arrived to find their side 1-0 up, even though they’d been kept informed on Twitter, thanks to Forshaw’s first-minute strike.
The Linnets survived a penalty shout inside 30 seconds when Fryatt appeared to upend the outstanding Liam Shotton before quickly springing a rapid counter attack on The Grove. Within seconds Steve Spriggs had the ball in the hosts’ box and he picked out Beaumont, whose shot was saved outstandingly by David Dyson. But Forshaw popped up to bury the rebound as Lynn netted inside 60 seconds for the second match in three.
Shotton went close to hauling his side back into the game before Daniel Skelton forced Setchell’s number one Danny Gay into an outstanding save with a powerful header.
Yet, Lynn continued to threaten with first Buhlemann and secondly in-form Spriggs, looking to net his 10th goal of the season, forcing Dyson into saves.
The action in the second-half slowed somewhat as the rain poured down but Ross Watson - who in the first 45 partnered Bexfield and Beaumont in a three-man central midfield - should have headed his team further in front.
Jamie Thurlbourne had a header cleared off the line as Lynn pushed for a winner and they found it at the death when Beaumont latched onto Spriggs’ clever through-ball and slotted home from inside the box with his left foot to cap a fine individual display.
However, the action didn’t end there, with Gay making another sublime save - this time from Thomas Winkle - before Jordan Yong upended Shane Reaney to give away an injury-time penalty.
Andy Kinsey slotted home from the spot but his consolation came too late as the referee blew his whistle after the game re-started to bring a close to another Linnets’ win.
