Gary Setchell could barely contain his delight after watching his King’s Lynn Town battlers clip high flying AFC Fylde’s wings.

Second-half goals from Marc Goodfellow and Sam Mulready kept the Linnets in the play-off shake-up with the busy Christmas period just around the corner.

“If I’m being honest, and this is not being disrespectful to Fylde, I think the side who wanted it more today has won the game,” said Setchell. “I think they believed that maybe, they were better than us and we have just set about them in an honest and determined fashion.

“We have produced two, top quality finishes and delivered a very satisfying, high energy performance.”

The Linnets manager was also full of praise for his 20 something core of players who make up the majority of his young, but galvanised squad.

“The likes of Thomson, Fryatt and Yong were all outstanding today and in Dan Quigley we have seen a midfield performance that has won us the game. Quigs has had a few problems recently which has resulted in extra training and he, to his credit, has worked hard and persevered.

“We will be keeping our feet firmly on the ground but I asked my players to compete with top five sides and today, just like with Worksop away and FC United here, we have done that.

“We now face a different kind of challenge at Stamford on Thursday where we will need to show more of the same aspects to compete and win the game.”
