Gary Setchell expects fine margins will decide whether King’s Lynn Town end the FA Cup dreams of a familiar foe.

The Linnets visit a Barwell side that they’ve faced four times in the last two seasons knowing that a win would leave them just one more victory away from the first round proper. And Lynn’s boss knows there will be little room for error when the clubs who play at Step Three of the non-league ladder lock horns in Leicestershire.

“We’ll go there and give it everything we’ve got and try and win some valuable pennies and raise the profile of the club that little bit further,” said Setchell ahead of the third qualifying round clash, worth £7,500 to the victors.

“Barwell’s Barwell. Nothing changes. They work very, very hard and everything you get you have to scrap for. You have to go from nought to 90 minutes (no extra-time, straight to a replay) and it’ll be a bit of brilliance or a mistake on the day that will decide it. I think we’re two evenly matched teams and there’ll be no quarter asked or given. We know we can go there and win. We’ve had experience in the Northern Premier, they’ve had experience in the Southern Premier. I know most of their players, (Barwell boss) Jimmy (Ginnelly) knows most of mine. They watched us last week, we watched them on Monday, so we both know what to expect.

“It’ll be a big test for our young team and if they can get a result it would be massive for the future league fixtures.”

Lynn did the double over Barwell in the 2013/14 Northern Premier League but the Canaries turned the tables last term. They now play in different divisions after Town were switched into the same-level Southern League Premier. Both sides sit mid-table in their respective set-ups.

Lynn will be unable to call upon defenders Sam Gaughran (injured) and Matty Castellan (cup tied) while left-back Jordan Yong (50/50) is doubtful. Liam Hurst should be fit to play after coming off during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Dunstable. Lee Smith is in line to make his debut.

Setchell said of his new arrival from Histon: “He’ll add us a little something because he can play in a number of positions from full-back to number nine and most places in between. He’s had a good non-league career at Step Three with Bury, Histon and Lowestoft. A player who can play in a number of positions is worth his weight in gold. We had one of them in Ross Watson, who never let us down, and Lee will do that for us.”
