King’s Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell has paid tribute to Dan Quigley following the 2-0 defeat at FC United of Manchester.
The midfield powerhouse has endured a week of mixed fortunes, having taken the goalkeeper’s gloves in the midweek defeat at Buxton and conceding four times before being replaced at the interval.
However, the player they call “Quiqz” was deployed to a central defensive role at Gigg Lane on Saturday and produced a performance that left his manager bristling with pride.
“Quiqz today has been magnificent, superb,” said Setchell.
“We have worked hard with him and what we have just seen out there today typifies the guy that he is.
“I’m always hearing from rival managers saying ‘your number eight’s a good player’ and today he has proved that he has another string to his bow and can play centre back as well as in midfield.
“He is a credit to the club, but he is still learning and maturing.”
Setchell also challenged anyone doubting the character of some of his players to have a chat with him.
“If anyone wants to come and see me I will have no problems having a chat with them,” he said. “The effort, passion, desire, team spirit whatever you want to call it, that we are putting in at the moment is outstanding. It has been all season and still is. The only difference at the moment is that we are not getting the results and on occasions the rub of the green.”
