Despite seeing his team lose their first match of 2014, King’s Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell remains in a positive mood over the progress his team have made in their fledgling season of level three football.

“We have come a very long way this season so far,” said the Linnets manager after his men’s 2-0 defeat at Matlock Town.

“I would say that I am now working with my strongest and most competitive squad of players I have had in my four years of being here.

“We are well placed, still in with an outside chance of a play-off place and at times, playing some decent football.

“Our one Achilles heel is that we still haven’t had an away clean sheet this season and that is something that we need to achieve in order to make things a bit easier for ourselves when we are away from home.”

Setchell felt his side, fifth in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League, were unlucky to come away empty-handed from their trip to Matlock.

“What we saw was two hard-working sides and an even game and, yes, I didn’t think that we deserved to lose.

“I was disappointed that we didn’t deal better with the first goal and then to concede when we were having much the better of play was a real sucker punch.

“The winning run was going to come to an end at one time or another so it now makes next weekend’s fixture (at home to Ilkeston Town) a big game and to maybe go and start another unbeaten run.”
