King’s Lynn Stars fans were in raptures last night as their heroes moved to the top of the Elite League table.

Even though it’s early in the season, the Norfolk Arena club have been in fine form – never more so than during last night’s home clash with Wolverhampton Wolves. A sensational comeback secured a third maximum points win from as many meetings at Saddlebow Road and left their supporters – and team boss Rob Lyon, mesmerised by the Stars’ brilliance.

Lyon said: “We never panicked; the team’s too good to do that. It’s about 15 heats. We left it tight, but you never panic.

“It was a fantastic spectacle, superb entertaintment and the top two (Niels-Kristian Iversen and Kenneth Bjerre) pulled it out of the bag for us. That’s what we signed them for and they did a great job.

“But Robert Lambert’s ride in heat 14 was out of this world and the other boys chipped in with some important points at important times. Rory’s (Schlein) third place when he passed Tai (Woffinden) in his last race proved to be a mega important point. It was a great team effort.”

Lynn’s fifth win avenged their only defeat of 2014 – which came at Wolverhampton last week. But they still picked up a losing bonus point that evening while Wolves had to return home with nothing to show for their fantastic efforts during a great meeting on Lynn’s own shale.
