Manager Gary Setchell is relishing the challenge of welcoming Conference North leaders AFC Fylde to The Walks, after being drawn against the big-spending Lancashire side in the final qualifying round of the FA Cup.

The Linnets won 3-2 at home against Lancaster City in the third qualifying round on Saturday and were drawn against Fylde yesterday.

The Coasters sit four points clear at the top of the Conference North table and on a run of eight successive wins – ever since losing 1-0 at Lowestoft Town in August.

The tough draw has only added more excitement to the competition for Setchell though, saying: “It’s a great draw for us. They are self-confessed in their ambition to be in the Football League by 2022, it’s all over their shirts.

“The draw is at home though which is good for us. We may not be at the level they play at, or top of our league, but it’s always better to be at home in any cup competition.”

Fylde are managed by former Tranmere defender Dave Challinor and were promoted from Lynn’s league, Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division, via the play-offs last season.

The Linnets beat them 2-0 at The Walks and lost 1-0 away, and Setchell feels his team can cause them problems again.

“It’s going to be a very, very tough game, but it’s at home, we’ll have a very good crowd and if we start right and get the crowd behind us, Fylde are in for a very tough game,” Setchell added.
