Yule went into the event as first seed, having finished top of the County Order of Merit, while his recent Norfolk Open triumph merely rubber-stamped his favouritism.

And the youngster from Middleton Hall lived up to the billing as he came through four matches to add the Matchplay title to his growing collection.

Defending champion Yule beat Charlie Rains and Matthew Strudwick comfortably enough on the opening day before edging past Ben Rawsthorne by one hole in the semi-finals.

His opponent in the final was Nic Cains of Swaffham who had come through three tight matches against Kevin Webb, Richard Wilson and youngster Toby Briggs to earn his tilt at a county title.

Cains fought all the way, with the lead changing hands several times, but Yule kept his composure to emerge with a 2&1 victory.

The event is the culmination of the NCGU Order of Merit series where the top 16 players from the Scratch Division and the top 16 players from the Handicap Division are invited to participate in the matchplay weekend.

The top 16 from the Scratch Order of Merit were battling for the Austin Brydon Trophy and for the first time the top 16 in the NCGU handicap Order of Merit enjoyed their own event, mirroring the scratch competition.

The final saw Morgan Thompson face Royal Norwich colleague Darren Abbs in another terrific match. Thompson established an early lead, with Abbs clawing it back, but Thompson eventually recorded a 2 & 1 victory to win the inaugural event

The presentation of the trophies took place in the club house with Barnham Broom captain Dan Jones and vice-president of the County Union Doug Gilchrist doing the honours.

Yule was also presented with his NCGU Order of Merit winner's trophy while Warren Blackwell of Costessey Park receive his winner's trophy for the handicap section.
