Semi-final hero Tommy Rowe is poised to lead Peterborough United out at Wembley this weekend after seeing off an injury scare.

Posh's skipper missed Tuesday's League One defeat at Preston North End with a hamstring problem but should return to training today. The 25-year-old scored the decisive spot-kick against Swindon Town to seal United's place in Sunday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy final against Chesterfield and boss Darren Ferguson admits his captain's expected return will give him better options ahead of the club's big day.

Peterborough's manager said: 'Tommy's an important player, everyone knows that. In saying that, I felt that Joe Newell was one of my best players the other night, I think he was a real positive.

'But Tommy can play in different positions. It'll be a boost to have him back, no question. We fully expect him to be fit, he'll train today, but we expect him to be fit.'

Defender Mark Little, who wore the armband in the 3-1 loss at Preston, is likely to skipper Posh if the former Manchester United youth-team midfielder fails to get fit in time.

'I haven't picked my team yet,' said Ferguson of the player who captained Posh for the first time in midweek.

'But if Tommy wasn't to make it and Litts started he'll be the captain. Mark sets a good example.'
