Fakenham Town’s recent upturn in fortunes will be put to the ultimate test on Saturday afternoon.
The Ghosts are emerging from a difficult period, with a new behind-the-scenes set-up created following internal divisions, and while there is a long way to go, at least the odd point is being added here and there.
Fakenham travel to runaway leaders Felixstowe & Walton United, who have won 19 of their 20 games and have a 15-point lead. However, they will be boosted by a battling 2-2 draw at Kirkley & Pakefield in midweek.
“I thought the determination and character of the lads to come from behind twice against Kirkley was excellent,” said caretaker manager Alex Walpole.
“It was a really good point for us against a good side, who really tested us but we showed that we could complete and we can take a lot form that and it will give us all a confidence boost going forward.
“We will be looking for the same commitment and effort at Felixstowe on Saturday. We know it is going to be really tough ask for us but we will go there with a game plan and focus on executing that the best we can.
“We are still a really young side but they will learn a lot from play sides like Felixstowe so it will be a good experience for us.”
Kirkley are at home to fifth-placed Saffron Walden Town.
In the First Division, King’s Lynn Town Reserves will be looking to return to winning ways after their 3-2 home defeat by fellow promotion hopefuls Whitton United a week ago. The Linnets, who have slipped to fourth, are at home to Braintree Town, who are eighth.
Swaffham Town are third, ahead of the Linnets on goal difference, and Paul Hunt’s side will be hoping to make up ground on the top two when they entertain Norwich CBS. The city side are making more than good fist of their first season outside of the Anglian Combination set-up – they are seventh in the table and still in the FA Vase.
The team they beat in the Vase last week, Wisbech St Mary, resume league duties with a trip to Halstead while Norwich United host Holland FC.
