Hundreds of gymnasts wowed crowds at Lynnsport on Sunday as King’s Lynn Gymnastic Club held its popular Open Championship.
Hundreds of gymnasts vowed crowds at Lynnsport on Sunday as King’s Lynn Gymnastic Club held its popular Open Championship.
Acrobatic stars from the Eclipse Club in Rushden, Northamptonshire, and the Holbeach and Fenland Club from Long Sutton – together with home club members – took part in the 78 acrobatic gymnastic floor routines.
A huge 180 entrants featured in tumbling competitions, with newly-formed groups and partnerships taking to the mat to perform their new acro routines.
At the start of the event all participants paraded around the floor, led by two of King’s Lynn’s top gymnasts Daniel Corbyn and Dong Ting Xu, who were proudly carrying an Olympic Torch.
High-level acrobatic gymnasts and preparatory grade tumbling were on display once the action began with several excellent performances.
Lynn’s Women’s Grade Two group of Timika Nicholson and Joanna and Mary Groves won the morning’s overall high-score trophy with 25.75. The club’s Freyor Macgregor scored highest in the Girls Age 13+ Prep D tumbling competition.
There was more glory for the town’s gymnasts in the afternoon when Corby and Dulce Hovell top-scored in their respective tumbling cateories. Eclipse duo Natasha Taylor and Amelia Whiting won the event’s prestigious Grade One Women’s Pair competion with a score of 25.20
Visiting head coach Terry Masters from Eclipse said: “Everyone really enjoyed the competition – this was the first time many of our gymnasts had actually competed so it was a good introduction to big events.”
