Caroline Grady is returning to the club she calls home after an absence of 20 years.
The former European Ladies’ Tour regular has said farewell to Dunston Hall and taken up a similar coaching role at Bawburgh and the Norwich Family Golf Centre.
She says she is delighted to be ‘returning to her roots’ – and is looking forward to working at a club that has changed beyond all recognition since she was coached there herself as a youngster.
“I can still remember going there with my father when I was 15 for my first lesson,” she said. “The targets were a few tyres and we had to retrieve the balls afterwards.
“There was a relatively tiny clubhouse and a portable cabin was the pro shop. Then we headed to the nine-hole golf course and became addicted to golf from there.
“What an awesome, remarkable facility it is now – 27 great golf holes, a large modern clubhouse and a modernised, state of the art teaching facility, I am inspired and overawed by what the Barnard family has achieved and I am very excited and proud to be coming home.
“It’s an emotional time. I am departing Dunston Hall with many fond memories and the members have supported me wholeheartedly throughout my professional career.”
After learning the ropes at Bawburgh, Grady went on to have a successful amateur career, winning the Norfolk Ladies’ title in 1996 before going on to turn professional. She made it to the highest level, and still has hopes of playing there again, while she remains a familiar face at local and regional professional competitions.
However, over the past 15 years teaching has been her bread and butter and Bawburgh and Norwich Family Golf Centre managing director Robert Barnard is excited to have her back on board.
“We are obviously delighted to see Caroline return to her roots and it will be great to have a lady teaching coach on the team,” he said. “She will join a long list of playing professionals representing Bawburgh - Andrew Marshall, Mark Spooner, Ben Rawsthorne, Alex Beckett, Tony Varney and Rob Wilkinson.
