Former professional David Bell is beginning to understand how to succeed in non-league football, according to his King’s Lynn Town boss Gary Setchell.

The majestic midfielder, who lists Norwich City among his former clubs, arrived at The Walks in January after dropping into the semi-professional game for the first time. Following his release from League One Notts County, the 30-year-old has already shown glimpses of his class with the Linnets.

But after brilliantly assisting two goals during the club’s last match at home to Skelmersdale United, Bell’s manager is convinced he is definitely getting to grips with playing alongside and against his part-time compatriots.

Setchell, whose men visit Stafford Rangers this afternoon, said: “David’s growing into, if you like, the non-league mentality. He realises he’s not able to bounce it off two or three players and get it back and he’s got to be patient.

“With the bad run we had he was getting very frustrated because he wants to win. He wants to come here, help us, me, and the football club win things. I’m in talks with him now for next season and if we get him with a full pre-season – you’ve got to remember he’s not played much football this season – that would be a good base to start from.”

The player – sold for a combined total of more than £1m in transfer fees – has played nine times for Lynn, scoring once.
