The long trip to Whitby proved to be an unhappy one for King’s Lynn Town last night.

The 340-mile round trip to the north east to face mid-table rivals Whitby saw the Linnets come away with a 4-0 defeat to show for their efforts.

The home side took a 1-0 lead into the break thanks to a goal from Shane Henry in the 19th minute but the Blues took full control of the game in the second half.

In front of just over 200 fans at the Turnbull Ground, Lee Mason put Whitby in control in the 58th minute.

Further goals from Steven Snaith, in the 73rd minute, and Zak Boagey, with three minutes remaining, ensured a miserable trip home for Gary Setchell’s side.

The Linnets already knew any hopes of making the Evo-Stik Premier Division play-offs were highly unlikely, but with three games of their campaign to go, that has now been mathematically confirmed.

The Linnets sit in ninth place following last night’s defeat, 10 points adrift of Ashton United in fifth place.

The victory lifted Whitby to 11th, four points behind Lynn and with two games in hand.

The Linnets are now not in league action until Saturday, April 19, when they travel to struggling Stocksbridge Park Steels.
