One man who will remember his World Cup experience should England win, lose or draw tonight is Adrian Hubbard.

The 46-year-old, a company director for Pentaco in Norwich, began his Brazilian adventure last week, landing in Manaus to see England’s opener against Italy.

Tonight he will join the 7,000 travelling fans again in Sao Paulo as they take on Uruguay, before flying home on Friday.

He said the trip had been a “fantastic experience”.

“The atmosphere here has been brilliant and everyone has been so welcoming. Even the atmosphere in the Italy game was great, despite the result.

“There’s no sign of any trouble at all, and we’ve felt really safe,” he said.

Mr Hubbard said the biggest difficulty he had faced was following the game at the Arena Amazonia.

With no taxis outside the ground, it took the hospitality of locals to help Mr Hubbard and a work colleague, he said.

“It was interesting coming out of the stadium and there being no transport at all. I ended up getting a motorbike taxi back which was something different.

“But the guy I’m here with couldn’t get one straight away, so a local family took him in and gave him food and drink while he waited for another one.

“They were said they were keen to show English people that the negative reports we’ve seen over here just aren’t true,” he said.

He also plans to follow England at the European Championships in France in two year’s time.
