Great Witchingham face the sternest test yet of their Gibbs Denley East Anglian League title credentials tomorrow when they travel to fellow high-flyers Sudbury.

The Witches have started the new season in impressive style, reeling off four straight victories in the 50-overs-per-side format to suggest they could have what it takes to challenge defending champions Swardeston, who have also won all their games so far.

The other side who can boast a 100 per cent record are Sudbury, and their match with Witchingham at Friars Street could well provide a pointer as to which team is most likely to break the mould at the top.

Swardeston also have a tough game at home to fourth placed Cambridge Granta, who have won three out of four so far,

Norwich go into their match at Burwell boosted by a battling performance against Swardeston – and a new sponsorship deal.

Grain merchants Adams & Howling Ltd have taken on the role of main sponsors of the club after several seasons of support as a silent backer. The deal was officially launched last Saturday when Norwich welcomed Swardeston to Ingham – and the hosts went on to give the visitors an excellent run for their money before going down by just seven runs.

The fact remains however that Ashley Watson's side have now lost three out of four and they will be looking to do something about that against a Burwell side who have the same record after losing by one wicket at Vauxhall Mallards.

Mallards make the short trip to Manor Park to take on a Horsford side who have also struggled for results early on, winning just one game.

Swardeston made a successful entrance into this season's Royal London Club Championship on Sunday after reaching the national final last year.

They beat Vauxhall Mallards by 52 runs at The Common to set up a home tie in the third round against Frinton on June 4. Swardeston were dismissed for 248 in the final over, with Stephen Gray (62) and Joe Gatting (70) putting on 100 for the second wicket.

In reply Mallards were all out for 196, Ben France top scoring with 39 not out and Jeremy Elliott taking 3-20.
