The managerial partnership which produced Norfolk Senior Cup success for Gorleston has been ended after Richard Daniels decided to step down from his role as joint-manager with Stuart Larter “for the good of the club.”
“I have decided to come away from my role as first team manager,” said Daniels. “I have had many discussions with chairman Alan Gordon and, with my role as vice- chairman and with certain commitments elsewhere, it is right for me, and for the good of the club, to hand the reins over to Stuart Larter.”
Daniels said he would remain at the club as director of football and vice- chairman and would oversee all footballing matters; first team, reserves and U18s, plus the U13s and U10s on a Sunday morning.
“I know under Stuart Larter’s guidance, the first team is going in the right direction. We have a very good squad and very capable players who can win things together, which has already been proven in the previous two seasons.”
When Larter – a six-times ECL title winner with Wroxham and former joint- manager at Kirkley and Pakefield – joined Daniels at the helm last November Daniels spoke of the adventure that lay ahead.
“Stu is clearly vastly more experienced at this level. It allows me the chance to learn as well and so far it has worked well between us,” said Daniels at the time.
After starting the season like a train, Gorleston, who finished 12th in the Premier Division last season have earned just one point from a possible 12. They will be looking to get back on track at home to Haverhill Rovers tomorrow.
Although they are in the bottom six, Rovers have won five of their last six games in all competitions, their only defeat coming at Basildon Utd in the FA Cup, and their wins include an 11-0 victory at Cornard Utd in the FA Vase.
On Tuesday night Gorleston travel to play Norwich Utd at Plantation Park. The Planters are currently one place and two points above the Greens, having played a game more.
