A Brazilian Norwich City fan has said the club’s fans are “in his heart forever” after a social media campaign was started to get him to Carrow Road for a game.
Lucas Jorge, from Rio de Janeiro, was featured in the Rio Round-Up on June 27 where he described his dreams of coming to England to see his beloved Canaries in the flesh.
Since then, the 19-year-old journalism student has been the subject of a yellow and green Twitter storm, with Norwich fans rallying behind a campaign to make that dream a reality.
In a video blog to his “Norwich family”, he said the only way he could make the trip would be for the club to pay or for fans to come together and fund it.
He said he was grateful to the fans’ after the social media support: “I’m very happy with everything that fans have done for me. It was the first time I saw something like that. It was very exciting. Unfortunately, I did not get answers, but okay, I know it is hard to happen.”
Fans’ campaigning saw supporters using the #bringourbrazilianhome hashtag, with tweets being sent to the official Norwich City account as well as chief executive David McNally and players including Ricky van Wolswinkel and Nathan Redmond.
Celebrity fans including Stephen Fry and Jake Humphrey were also lobbied for their support.
Mr Jorge’s Twitter account, @NorwichCityFCBR, has also clocked up more than 2,000 followers since he featured in the Rio Round-Up.
