Gary Setchell has bemoaned the decision to rearrange King’s Lynn Town’s home clash with Sheffield – just six days before it was meant to take place.

The Linnets Evo-Stik Division One South clash with the world’s oldest club had been scheduled to take place on Tuesday. But The Walks outfit, who had their trip to Romulus postponed on Monday due to snow, were told yesterday it will now take place on Tuesday April 9.

The Yorkshire club will visit North Ferriby United next week for a League (Doodson) Cup tie instead, much to the annoyance of Setchell.

He said: “The league, less than seven days prior to us playing Sheffield, have decided to pencil them in for a Doodson Cup match. We’re trying to do things properly at this club. We’d got a sponsor for the game, people had worked hard behind the scenes, and now it’s been called off. It’s really, really annoying.

“Our fixture backlog isn’t going to get any easier now. I just don’t see how you can call a league game off and put in a League Cup match instead. That match could have been played this week as far as I’m concerned.”

Promotion-chasing Lynn still have 18 league games to play before their final match of the term, play-off fixtures aside, on April 27. Four of those are midweek away ties.

Setchell said: “At our level Tuesday away games are renowned for being difficult for most clubs. It’s where you’re most likely to drop points. We’ve got three Tuesday away matches, and a Wednesday one, coming up. It’s difficult for players to get time off work. It’s going to be hard. We’ve got to get on with it I suppose.”

Lynn return to action at Gresley on Saturday.
