After a hugely successful season in the British Roller Derby Championships, the county’s top team, the Norfolk Brawds, made it to play-offs – and returned home victorious after winning two of their three games.
They finished second overall in Tier 3 nationally, behind Rebellion Roller Derby, earning promotion to the hugely competitive women’s Tier 2 for the 2018 season.
Co-captain Tori Holt said: “We had big goals for the 2017 season and we exceeded them, so we are incredibly happy with the results we achieved and are looking forward to taking a well-earned break this October.”
Norfolk Roller Derby was founded in 2010 and has been growing steadily since then, with over 100 league members and four travel teams, including women’s A team, the Norfolk Brawds, women’s B team, The Black Shucks, men’s team, the East Anglo Smacksons and Co-ed team, the Mustard City Rollers.
The sport is one of the fastest growing in the UK, and has an increasing presence around the world.
In February 2018 the UK will be hosting the Roller Derby World Cup for the first time, by internationally acclaimed league, Rainy City, based in Manchester.
The game consists of two teams of four defensive players and one jammer – the point scorer.
Norfolk Roller Derby hosts open door games throughout the year. If anyone would like to watch a game, Co-ed team, the Mustard City Rollers will be playing at Norwich’s Epic Studios on November 12.
