Australia win race-off to reach Saturday’s Speedway World Cup final at Bydgoszcz, Poland

Australia – who slumped to a shock third-placed finish in King’s Lynn at the weekend – this evening booked their place in the World Cup final.

The Aussies won the last-chance saloon race-off in Bydgoszcz, Poland, beating Sweden by 11 points. USA finished third, despite the best efforts of the legendary Greg Hancock who secured a stunning 21-point maximum at the age of 44. Czech Republic came last. Australia will take on Great Britain – who won at the Norfolk Arena on Saturday – Denmark and the holders, and hosts of this year’s showcase, Poland, at Bydgoszcz for a shot at speedway glory on Saturday.
