Forgetting their 1-0 defeat to relegated Birmingham is a difficult but important task for Jack Stacey and his Norwich City team-mates.

The Canaries lost fifth spot in the Championship by failing to beat the Blues, who were sent down by Plymouth Argyle’s 1-0 win over Hull.

But Stacey knows they’ll have to move on quickly to be in the right frame of mind for their play-off clash with Leeds, even if any defeat is disappointing.

“It’s not easy, it’s disappointment personally,” he said. “I don’t think it was to be expected, we are disappointed with the performance.

“But I think what we’re trying to create is energy moving forward, and in terms of the overall picture of the season we’ve made it into the play-offs.

“We have to look forward now. It’s been our aim for a long time to try to get into the play-offs, and if you look at some of the situations we’ve been in this season we have to look at that as the first success along the journey.

“We’ll take it and focus all of our energy forward now.”

The Blues may have been fighting at the opposite end of the table to Norwich, but both Stacey and head coach David Wagner felt the atmosphere during the game was good preparation for tense play-off fixtures.

The focus now is on the future, however, and how City can pivot their ambitions to reaching the Premier League.

“Obviously they were playing for a very different prize to what we were, and unfortunately they didn’t get it,” he continued.

“But we have to look forward now, and look forward to the first game at Carrow Road and then away at Elland Road.

“There are four teams now fighting for the play-offs, anything that happens before is out of the window, it doesn’t matter.

“We’ve got two games to try and get to the final, and that’s our plan.”
