David Wagner has urged his Norwich City troops to finish the play-off chasing job 'as soon as possible' after a disappointing 1-1 draw with Bristol City.

Victory over the Robins would have pushed Norwich up to fifth in the table and in need of a point to all but secure their fate.

Challengers Hull and Coventry can now only get a maximum of 75 points in their remaining matches, with City currently on 72 with a superior goal difference - they may get the chance to finish the job next weekend at home to Swansea.

With Hull and Coventry meeting in midweek, City will know the full picture later, but Wagner is eager to complete the job at the soonest opportunity.

"We altogether would like to finish this as soon as possible. This is the truth," Wagner said at his post-match press conference.

"That's why we are a little bit disappointed that we did not win the game like we wanted, but if you see the performance that we've shown and consider this, then this is a point that is a good point for us.

"We want to do it as soon as possible - this is not only our aim but everyone's aim. It would be good to do it at home, but if we had to do it away then I would like to do it then as well. The next chance is next Saturday."

Norwich were uncharacteristically flat against Liam Manning's in-form side, but managed to avoid defeat on an off-colour day at Carrow Road.

For Wagner, that ability to prevent a defeat after an underpar performance offers encouragement as he vowed to move on quickly from this fixture.

"The encouragement that you can get is the point," he said. "For sure, not the performance or how we played - most of the individuals, to be fair - but they are humans, and they have enough credit earned from me and are self-critical enough to know this wasn't good enough.

"We have shown that we are better consistently but today we haven't. Then you have to at least try and get a point.

"This is what the players got and you've seen how difficult it is at this stage of the season for everyone to win games in the Championship.

"Then you have to make sure you get a point. It takes us a small step closer to our target, the play-offs, and there are two games to go."
