Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn didn’t mind bailing the Canaries out as they rode their luck in a 1-1 draw with Bristol City.

Gunn made a series of fine saves as the Robins piled pressure on in the second half at Carrow Road, most memorably denying Tommy Conway and Scott Twine with a magnificent close-range double save.

The Scot has become used to playing a starring role for his side this season, winning them points a number of times when they haven’t been at their best. He had less opportunity to show his prowess as David Wagner’s side won eight consecutive home games, but felt comfortable being back among the action.

“Obviously I’d rather be stood there watching the lads at the other end of the pitch score the goals,” he said. “But if we’re not on it and we come under the cosh, that’s what I’m there for. I’m glad I could help the lads today.

“Obviously we prepare all week for the opposition we’re playing. Clem (Paul Clements), the goalkeeping coach, prepares all the ‘keepers really well for what we’re going to face.

“I felt really positive coming into the game, and I was thankful to be able to help the lads. We’ll do the same next week, and hopefully I’m a little bit quieter.”

The result means the end of a run of eight consecutive home wins for David Wagner’s side, but Gunn felt the result was a positive one in context.

“We’re disappointed that we didn’t win the game,” he continued. “But given the performance was slightly below par today and Bristol City came here and did a really good job, I think we’ll look back at the end of the season and it’ll be a positive one.

“That was probably one of our worst performances at home for a while, which just shows how good we’ve been here this season.

“I think if we can come away, given the performance, with a point, we’ll take that in the end.”
