Norwich City fan Brad Hills has crammed everything he could into his Accrington Stanley loan spell.

The 20-year-old centre back continues to earn rave reviews entering the final leg of a season long stint in League Two.

Hills notched up his 41st appearance of his breakout senior campaign in a 3-1 weekend defeat at Sutton, but has also picked up two red cards and had to deal with a recent managerial departure with John Coleman dismissed.

“I’ve had my ups and my downs but that is all part of football I guess,” he said. “I’m playing football every week so I am really enjoying it. It’s good.

“For the rest of the season I just want to keep on learning, more games, more clean sheets and hopefully no suspensions. I’m probably the worst watcher there is and sit there criticising everyone else. It is hard not playing and seeing the team not winning games.

“At times it has been difficult moving away from family and friends and being a bit isolated and living alone. But I feel I have adapted really well. I came on loan to play football and that is hopefully what I am doing.”

"It has been a brilliant season. I came to play games. To see John and Jimmy (Bell) go was my first experience of that in professional football. They were brilliant for me, but it is part of the game.

Hills is open-minded on whether he can force his way into City’s first team plans, when he returns for pre-season, or another Football League loan beckons.

The Canaries’ academy graduate has relished his introduction to League Two alongside another Norwich loanee Lewis Shipley.

“Most games at this level are a physical battle. Head it, kick it and being in the right place at the right time. The games are tough,” he said. “We play Sutton and the wind is blowing, the pitch is bobbly but you can’t use that as an excuse. I feel like I have adapted well.

"Some of us in the squad are at the same stage of our careers. We are new to the Football League. That is good in a way because it means we can help each other.

"But the older lads here are great. If you have a question you need answering you can always go to the skip or one or two others. They always have time for you, and it is so good to learn off those type of experienced players. There is no bad egg in the team.

“Me and Ships get along really well. We are room mates and we have that chemistry from playing together for so long in the academy, and it has been great to be able to step into the Football League with him alongside me.”
