Todd Cantwell has set out to prove people wrong after swapping Norwich City for Glasgow Rangers.

The Dereham-born midfielder joined the Scottish club earlier this week, ending a long association with the Canaries spanning well over a decade.

Despite making 18 appearances for City in the Championship this season, Cantwell has endured a tough 12 months at Carrow Road with all parties concluding that a fresh start was the best solution.

Early promise after an electric Premier League campaign in the 2019/20 season has quickly turned into adversity for Cantwell - who is hoping to silence his doubters in Scotland.

"As a footballer, things aren't always going to go well for you. My career started in a very promising and satisfying way, I didn't have too many challenges come my way. Then I had them all come at once," he said at his unveiling press conference.

"You guys are probably fully aware that things that happen off the pitch can affect what happens on the pitch, just like any normal person. There have been struggles but everyone has struggles off the pitch and in life.

"I'm not here for a sob story. I'm in a position now where I feel like I have a mental strength towards a lot of things and I've got a chance to prove a lot of people wrong."

Throughout the last year, Cantwell has revealed that he has suffered from self-doubt but believes that Mick Beale can help rediscover his best form at Rangers.

“It has been difficult at times but everyone has a story for a reason," Cantwell said.

“Through times when things don’t go so well, there are periods of self-doubt. There are moments when you question yourself and why you are in the position you are in.

“But when you have a little bit of time to reflect, you can be honest with yourself and can look at the situation with a fair understanding of what has happened and why it has happened, and be able to move forward.

“We had multiple conversations (with Beale). It was something the media got hold of quite quickly but it wasn’t something that was rushed. It was spoken about, gone through, and we all agreed it was the right thing to do. For me, the level of dedication the club showed, letting me think about things, while making it clear I was someone they wanted, was really powerful for me.”
