Victory Housing Trust affordable homes to be built on North Walsham eyesore site

Another North Walsham brownfield eyesore site has been sold and will be redeveloped with affordable homes.

Contracts were exchanged for the former Howard’s coachworks garage last week.

The site, on Mundesley Road, has remained derelict for a number of years but a spokesman for Victory Housing Trust said builders would start work there next month and a planned 15 new homes should be finished in about a year’s time.

The site would be developed with three one-bedroomed and 12 two-bedroomed flats.

They would be offered to people needing homes to rent on North Norfolk District Council’s general register.

A further 16 Victory homes were nearing completion on another one-time eyesore site, the town’s former Hall Lane Garage.

A topping-out ceremony was due to take place there shortly and the mixture of flats and bungalows were expected to be ready for their first tenants in March.

Meanwhile, work is set to start early next year on 36 new Victory homes planned for a greenfield site off Skeyton Road; an application which prompted widescale opposition from surrounding residents who said the town’s brownfield sites should be used instead.

The Victory spokesman said the scheme would take about 18 months to complete and would be ready in 2014.
