Another developer is hoping to build a large number of homes on a site east of North Walsham’s Norwich Road.

Persimmon wants to build on a 4.42ha (11-acre) plot allocated by North Norfolk District Council for up to 120 homes, including affordable housing and public open space.

The Lowestoft-based firm has agreed terms to buy the land, subject to planning permission.

Persimmon will stage a public consultation on its proposals next Wednesday, July 23, in North Walsham Town Council’s offices, on New Road, from 3pm-7pm.

The site is currently farmland and forms part of a total 24.5ha of land in several ownerships in the area allocated for development by the council in 2011 to include up to 450 homes, a station car park, employment uses which could feature a pub, offices, small retail facilities and other commercial premises, and public open space.

The first phase, the former HL Foods factory site north of the Persimmon plot, is being developed with 176 homes by Hopkins Homes.

A spokesman said building work would begin within the next few months.

The firm hopes to launch the development early next spring with the first residents moving in during the late spring.
