Brundall Lavender House

Where is Brundall?
Seven miles from Norwich off the road to Great Yarmouth, with two stations on the Norwich-Yarmouth line - and transport by river, too

About Brundall

Brundall combines different roles. It may be something of a domitory village for Norwich workers, but it has a lively life of its own, with two pubs, a supermarket, several other shops, a school, church, library and post office.

It also has a busy riverside area, in particular the Riverside Estate, which has a fascinating collection of boat-builders and repairers, allied trades, boat hire firms, marinas and a population of people who live aboard their boats all year round.

Brundall Church

In fact when people hear of 'Brundall flooding' as the river rises, it is not the village itself, which stands well above the River Yare, which floods, but this estate.

The Norwich Yacht Agency on the Riverside estate is host to the Brundall Riverfest, now an annual event for villagers and boatlovers.

One of the oldest buildings in the village is also one of Norfolk's best-known restaurants, the Lavender House (right) run by chef Richard Hughes.
