Here’s where you can laugh your way into the festive mood this Christmas.

Tis the season to feel jolly and there are plenty of chances to put a big fat Christmas grin on your face at comedy nights and shows over the next couple of weeks.

• Adam Kay’s Smutty Christmas Songs

Norwich Playhouse, December 15, 8pm, £15 (£13 cons), 01603 598598, www.norwichplayhouse.co.uk

Amateur Transplants frontman Adam Kay returns in his solo capacity to presents an evening of seasonal smut. This night of festive filth is the antidote to the pantomime horrors in every other theatre at this time of year, he argues. Originally trained as a doctor, Kay formed one half of the Amateur Transplants musical parody group with fellow medic Dr Suman Biswas. Together, the pair performed their crude medical parodies of pop songs for several years, including multiple appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. With a string of sell-out tours and Edinburgh Fringe seasons, his cutting-edge, darkly humorous re-imaginings of pop and rock classics have gained him a cult following, with over 20 million hits on YouTube . And unlike the majority of musical comedy, this is actually funny.

• Karl Minns: Raining Diamonds

Norwich Playhouse, December 18-19, 8pm, £15, 01603 598598, www.norwichplayhouse.co.uk

Ahead of celebrating 20 years of The Nimmo Twins next year, Karl Minns here returns to something different, his first solo show, back after premiering at Norwich Playhouse in April. Raining Diamonds tells the story of Miles; a boy born with a rare condition that stops him from loving, and the one girl prepared to don Nomex gloves to be with him. Funny, tender and surreal, it is a positive and negatively charged ride from Africa to Berlin, through a wet field just outside Keswick to where you are now. It’s more serious than the Nimmos, but sure to feature plenty of his trademark humour.

• Red Card Comedy

Carrow Road, Norwich, December 21, 8.45pm, £12, 0844 8261902, www.redcardcomedyclub.com

The gift-wrapped present that is this annual Christmas Red Card night will this year be ready to open on December 21. An absolutely fantastic rocking Christmas comedy special is in store we’re promised with the amazing five star musical brilliance from Jonny Awsum. Blessed with gangly comic looks, he manages to bring whole audiences onboard with simple, exuberant and crowd-pleasing fun. Supporting acts include the live-wire Danny Ward with his rapid fire delivery and sneaky punchlines, Luke Toulson with his laid back style and deceptively clever observations, and madcap visual and clowning comedy from circuit legend Steve Best.
