Teenagers could get a new activity area as part of plans to give a popular Norwich park a much-needed facelift.

Norwich City Council last year asked people who live and work in Chapelfield Gardens to have their say on how they think more than £191,000 of developer contributions should be spent to improve the area.

Early ideas include new colourful equipment in the children’s play area along with a new activity area for older children and teenagers between Pedro’s restaurant and the kiosk.

Further improvements could include installing removable perch seating and reinstating the lighting in the bandstand, and creating a space which could be used for a performance area, story-telling and petanque.

Now the council is inviting people to see how their views are helping to shape the city park.

Tomorrow, an event will be held at the Methodist Church Centre on Chapel Field Road, where people can drop by between 6pm and 9pm to see some of the initial plans and types of equipment the council is intending to install.

Parks and open spaces officer Maggie Finck, who is managing the project, will be on hand at the event to answer questions.

“We are very grateful for all the comments we received during our consultation in October,” she said.

“We have looked carefully at everything people said to us and our new play spaces have been designed to meet the needs of younger children, older children and teenagers alike.

“We have included some old favourites as well as some exciting new ideas.”

A final design will be produced in the summer and in winter work should get under way once a contractor has been selected.
