Markets, visits from Santa and funfairs are just some of the delights on offer at this year's Christmas lights switch-on ceremonies.

HOLT

The Holt Christmas lights switch-on will be done by television presenter, Jake Humphries on Wednesday, November 19, at 6.45pm.

There will also be street entertainment, live reindeer and a magic show with children's entertainers Razz the Clown and Auntie Pearl at Holt Community Centre for an hour from 5.30pm.

NORTH WALSHAM

A markets bonanza is planned to boost pre-Christmas trade in North Walsham with a run of four on December 19, 20 and 21, organised by North Walsham Town Council. A farmers' and craft market is also planned in St Nicholas Court shopping precinct as part of the Christmas lights switch-on celebrations which take place on Saturday, November 29 at 6pm in Market Place with Miss Teen Norfolk, Gabbi Ryan. On the day of the switch-on there will also be lantern parade and street entertainment and music from the Salvation Army Band.

Nick Clancy, North Walsham town clerk, said; 'The aim is to try and persuade people to stay and shop in town not just with the markets, but in the shops as well, rather than go out of town.'

CROMER

Cromer Christmas lights will be switched on Saturday, December 6 at 6.45pm by the winner of a children's poster competition. There will be Christmas tree and nativity festivals in the Parish Church from Wednesday, December 3 to Saturday, December 6. There will also be a Christmas craft market both in the Parish Church and the Parish Hall on Saturday, December 6 and a Santa's grotto and a craft market in Garden Street. A community/civic carol service will be held on Sunday, December 7 in the Parish Church from 3pm. The festival and craft markets are open from 10am - 4pm with later opening on the Friday and Saturday.

AYLSHAM

Aylsham's switch-on takes place on Friday, November 28, in the Market Place on at 6pm by local businessmen, Paul Fisher and Martin Smith. There will be a lantern procession with local children leaving St Michaels School at 5.45pm to follow behind Father Christmas into Market Place. There will also be music, workshops, charity and trade stalls and late night opening. Santa's grotto will be at Eclipse Hair Salon in Red Lion Street.

A Christmas tree festival is being held at Aylsham Parish Church taking place from Thursday, November 27 through to Tuesday, December 2 from 10am-5pm, with late opening to 8pm during the light switch-on.

SHERINGHAM

The Sheringham switch-on takes place on Friday, December 5 from 6.30pm, with music from the Salvation Army Band and local school choirs. A charity Christmas tree festival will also take place from Thursday, December 11 to Wednesday, December 16, in St. Andrew's Methodist Church, Sheringham. The festival will be open weekdays (except Friday) 10.30 -6pm, Friday 10.30 -7pm, Saturday 10.30 – 6pm and Sunday 2pm – 6pm. Admission to the festival is free.

Stalham Christmas street fair will be held on Sunday, December 7 from 2pm.

FAKENHAM

In Fakenham, the Christmas lights extravaganza is set to fill the town with twinkling optimism after the popular annual fireworks event was cancelled this year due to the demise of the Fakenham Chamber of Trade.

Organisers Kick-Start Fakenham and the Fakenham Area Partnership (FAP) have promised that this year's switch-on event will be better than ever, with a traditional festive theme on Saturday, November 29.

There will be fairground rides, street entertainment and Father Christmas will have a walk-through grotto.

Fakenham's Christmas lights display costs about £7,500 which is underwritten by the town council with funds raised by Kick-Start Fakenham and FAP from businesses and fundraising events.

As part of this year's event, businesses are being invited to fill their windows with festive displays to create a Christmas trail around the town.

On the switch-on day, children will be able to visit Santa from 2pm, and the lights will be turned on at 4.30pm.

DEREHAM

In Dereham, efforts are being made to reignite the Christmas lights display after last year's disappointment.

Together with the improved lights display, there will also be a continental Christmas market in Dereham for the first time on the day of the switch-on, performances by a range of bands and community groups, and Father Christmas will take up residence in the Assembly Rooms for the festive season.

This year's switch-on will be held on November 30. The Christmas market will be open from 12pm and there will be acts on the stage from 2pm. There will also be a colourful fun fair and a number of charity stalls.

WELLS

In Wells, Father Christmas will again arrive from the sea at the popular Wells Christmas Tide, which is due to take place on Saturday, December 6.

Father Christmas is due to arrive on the high tide at around 5.15pm.

A cocktail evening will be held on Friday, December 5 at The Maltings from 8pm. Tickets are £22.50, which includes six cocktails and savoury and sweet canapés, plus entertainment. Fancy dress is optional with an Absolutely Fabulous theme. Strictly over 18s. Tickets available from Goldings, Staithe Street, by calling 07990 720887.

BURNHAM MARKET

Meanwhile, the Burnham Market Christmas lights switch-on and Christmas market will be held on Saturday, November 22.

The market starts at 12pm, finishing with the lights switch-on at 6pm.
