Marion Millership, North Norfolk district councillor for Waterside ward, organised the October 6 walks for youngsters at Hickling and Sutton infant schools and Catfield Primary School.

North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb joined a group of pupils, teachers and parents at Catfield school for a walk around the village and its surrounding woods and fields.

Mrs Millership said: 'It was a great afternoon having the time to talk to the children about their surroundings and the changing colours of the fields.

'When we returned back to school there were homemade cakes and drinks for everyone.

'I had laid out literature and posters for everyone and the head teacher and I spoke with the children asking them of their understanding of dementia.

'We then explained to the children what their contributions would be spent on.'

Mrs Millership said youngsters at Hickling School finished their walk at Hickling House residential home, which they had visited before to sing at Christmas. She said: 'Now after this visit they will be trying to make their visits more regular, hopefully on a monthly basis.

'When I heard this I really smiled as the children and the home will be able to form a close relationship, which in a small village is great news.'

Mrs Millership also organised a cake sale and dress-down day at the district council offices in Cromer, which raised £237 for the society.

She said: 'We also had some lovely donated goodies from staff. We were very well supported by the staff and looked after by the canteen staff all morning.'

All together, the events raised just over £500.

Mrs Millership said: 'A huge thank you to you all for taking part and for the money raised.

'Sadly most of us will be affected by the disease in some way. I hope that the money raised by these events will help the society with its research and support.'
