Ionela Cercel, 20, died on the A134 in Crimplesham on Sunday after a gold BMW she was travelling in smashed into a tree on the major road between Thetford and King’s Lynn.

Her 14-month-old son Ianis Cercel was removed from the car and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in King’s Lynn, with “critical” injuries but died a few hours later.

His father and driver of the vehicle, Marian Parvu, 26, is still fighting for his life in Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

The trio lived in the remote village of Stanesti in Giurgiu county, in southern Romania and have been named by daily newspaper Giurgiuveanul.

There were no other vehicles involved in the crash, which happened at 7.30am close to A134 junction with Main Road junction heading away from King’s Lynn.

It is not know yet what caused the 318 BMW to leave the road on the straight section of the road, lined with trees.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the manner of driving of the vehicle should contact Norfolk Constabulary’s serious collision investigation team on 101.
