Drawings by talented young artists have gone on display at Norwich Cathedral.
The exhibition includes more than 40 drawings by 10 to 18-year-olds who have taken part in a Royal Drawing School Young Artists programme.
The cathedral itself is featured in some of the artworks, which are on show at the Hostry.
Most of the artworks featured are by youngsters from the Norwich Drawing Club, which is based at Lion House in St George’s Works.
Lady Susan Bacon, a member of the Royal Drawing School’s academic board, said: “I am delighted that the Royal Drawing School has extended its reach for the young artist to Norwich.
“Drawing helps one see and understand the world. Well taught practice through observation will open the young eye and mind, helping the student in whatever area they later choose.”
The artworks will be on show until July 15.
A new wave of art
The Norwich Drawing Club is part of a wider creative development taking place in the Duke Street area.
St. Mary’s Works and St. George’s Works, two former shoe factories, are destined for redevelopment over the next 10 years, and in the meantime have been offered to artistic and creative groups.
Dominic Richards, chief executive of The Shoe Quarter Ltd, said he was delighted to support the Norwich Drawing School.
Mr Richards said: “As someone who has at first hand benefitted enormously from the teaching of the drawing school, I was delighted to be able to help in a small way to bring this worthwhile project to Norwich.
“Our vision for St Mary’s and St George’s Works is to fashion a mixed use creative quarter for Norwich. In the meantime before we start a long term regeneration of the Shoe Quarter having the buildings gainfully employed with such wonderful initiatives such as the Royal Drawing School means the place has life as well setting precisely the right tone for the future.”
