Peter Pan - the classic JM Barrie story of the boy who wouldn't grow up - is set to be the venue's 2014 festive spectacular, and the city theatre is looking for six boys to play the roles of Michael and John Darling.

Auditions are being held next month and the successful youngsters will join a cast that includes former Coronation Street star Kevin Kennedy (Curly Watts), CBeebies presenter Sid Sloane, and the venue's panto mainstay Richard Gauntlett.

Richard, who is also writing and directing the production, said: 'We are looking for boys to take on the roles of John and Michael, who will be characters aged six and ten in the show.

'They need to be willing to work hard and play hard, as well as have a head for heights and a sense of fun.

'This will also be a great opportunity for them to star in a professional theatre production alongside a host of top stage stars in the theatre's biggest production of the year.'

Michael and John Darling are the brothers of Wendy, and Peter Pan takes the trio on an adventure to Neverland, a land that is home to Peter and the Lost Boys - and also Peter's nemesis Captain Hook.

Auditions for the roles of Michael and John will take place on Sunday, September 21 at Norwich Theatre Royal in front of a panel that will include the show's executive producer Jane Walsh, choreographer Dee Jago, and musical director David Carter who will look for suitable performers alongside Richard Gauntlett.

Executive producer Jane Walsh said they were looking for children who have lots of personality and great stage presence.

She said: 'We are looking for three teams of Michaels and Johns and they will take turns performing.

'Rehearsals will begin on Monday, December 1 and the successful boys will also need to attend extra rehearsals and classes prior to this.'

Norwich Theatre Royal previously staged Peter Pan in 2005, with Richard Gauntlett playing the title role.

This year's production of Peter Pan will run from December 18 until January 18. The three teams of Michaels and Johns will take turns in performing so that each team stars in about 17 performances.
