Wells inshore lifeboat will be launched during the open day on Sunday

Yacht towed back in to Wells Harbour

A 26ft yacht was today towed back to Wells Harbour after suffering engine failure.

The crew of the locally-based yacht Ourperdita - contacted the coastguard to say that they were drifting near number three buoy in the outer harbour approaches and needed help.

The vessel - based in Wells with two people on board - was further to the east than reported, having drifted on the tide and was in danger of running aground on the area known as Bob Hall Sands.

It was too shallow for the harbour launch, Provider, to tow her off, so the lighter beach patrol inflatable pulled her into deeper water.

The Wells inshore lifeboat was launched and stood by.

Provider then took over the tow and took the yacht back into harbour.
