The RNLI team at Wells was called out to rescue a yacht.

The Wells all-weather lifeboat was used to rescue a small yacht which got into difficulties in rough seas off shore today.

The lifeboat, Doris M Mann of Ampthill was launched at 12.57pm after being paged by Humber Coastguards at 12:14pm.

The yellow hulled yacht Gin Fizz had been sailing approximately two miles north-east of Wells’ leading buoy with one person on board.

It was having difficulty against the strong east going tide and head-winds despite being under sail and having an outboard auxiliary engine.

It was decided to launch the all-weather lifeboat as the conditions on the bar were too rough in the south-south-west force five wind for the inshore lifeboat to attend.

The yacht was taken in tow and brought back to her moorings in Wells harbour.

No one was hurt in the incident.
