The Wymondham Lions have raised £200 to help a church-led scheme provide young people in the town somewhere to socialise.

The group raised the funds for the town’s youth bus, which acts as a gathering point for 13 to 18-year-olds.

The volunteer-run bus visits the Browick Road Recreation Centre every Friday evening from 6.30pm to 10pm and offers young people in the town a supervised area to meet with friends and talk.

Plans are currently being discussed to allow the bus - which was launched in 2013 by the Wymondham Church Network - to travel into the surrounding villages.

John Wilde, Lions president, said: “Providing assistance for young people to have opportunities to develop their individual skills is a central part of what the Lions are all about.”

Dianne Fernee, town councillor and keen supporter of the youth bus, said that she was “delighted” with the funds raised.

She added that that contribution would help the scheme continue to do its good work.
