It is the end of an era for a Norfolk rugby club as it gears up to play its final match at its long-standing ground.

Wymondham RFC has called Tuttles Lane home for more than 40 years but, in the new season, it will be relocating to a new clubhouse.

To mark the move, the club is hosting a celebration weekend which coincides with the final home game for the first team against Lowestoft and Yarmouth.

'It is a big moment for us,' said club chairman Andrew Kilby.

'We have built up a lot of memories here at Tuttles Lane over the years and, though we're moving up to something bigger and better, lots of former players as well as parents and friends will be here on Saturday to say goodbye to the old place.'

Pizza and a barbecue are on offer all day as players old and new come to say farewell to the clubhouse with a full day of rugby.

A minis tournament kicks off the day from 9.30am, followed by an Old Boys match and two senior games, including the main event from Wymondham's first XV.

There will also be a world record attempt on the day as Ampthill RFC plan to bring more than 280 young players and supporters which would be the largest rugby tour ever. The current record is held by Ealing with 264.

Wymondham RFC will be heading less than a mile away to their new site just off Norwich Common in September.

The club's 22 teams will benefit from three full-size pitches as well as two smaller training pitches.

The new two-storey clubhouse will have six changing rooms, a rehab gym and meeting rooms as well as a bar, function room and balcony on the second floor overlooking the main pitch.

'This is going to be a fantastic facility that will take Wymondham Rugby into a new era,' said Mr Kilby.

'And it's not just for us – we want other local clubs and community groups to get involved. It's going to be a great asset for South Norfolk.'
