It was a marathon - but not as we know it.

Dancers descended on Wroxham from all over Norfolk to take part in a five-hour charity Salsa challenge.

Sharon and Richard Banester, whose business Dance Cuban holds weekly Salsa classes at Hotel Wroxham, used the venue for a marathon in aid of Save the Children.

The event, part of an Ultimate Dance Challenge staged around the country, raised nearly £1,180.

It involved a non-stop Rueda dance, a form of Cuban Salsa that is danced by couples in a circle with someone calling moves to keep the dancers in sequence.

Sharon said: “It was a long time to keep dancing but everyone had a fantastic time, and knowing that we were making a difference to children around the world made it worthwhile.

“Every year 7.6 million children under five die from preventable diseases like diarrhoea and pneumonia and malnutrition. Save the Children is working hard to prevent these needless deaths.”

Dance Cuban’s classes at Hotel Wroxham are on every Thursday from 7.30pm.

The couple also hold dance classes in Acle.
