Wroxham development with 100 new homes given the go-ahead

A plan to build 100 new homes in Wroxham was given the green light today after councillors decided the area would benefit from a new development.
The new homes on the land to the west of Salhouse Road will include 33 affordable houses, a mixture of smaller flats, terraced houses and larger detached properties.
The Hopkins Homes development will be serviced by single-lane Salhouse Road, and an extra two bus stops will be added to encourage homeowners to use public transport.
Some councillors objected to the inclusion of unadopted roads in the new estate, meaning householders would be responsible for their upkeep.
Councillors also shared concerns, raised by Wroxham Parish Council, that the access to the new estate would be dangerous and cause traffic congestion.
There were also questions asked about whether there were enough community facilities in Wroxham.
Lana Hempsall, Broadland District councillor for Acle, said it was clear the amount of new homes that could be built in Wroxham was limited, so it was important to secure the best deal.
She said: “For an area that hasn’t got a community facility infrastructure, their best chance is through some sort of development.”
But the committee agreed to delegate authority to the council’s head of planning to approve the scheme.
