A popular Norfolk airshow will be the scene of two world record attempts next year after its headline act was confirmed.

Thousands of spectators are anticipated to attend the Old Buckenham Airshow at the village’s former second world war airfield on the weekend of June 22 and 23.

And organisers said they were “delighted” to announce that Brendan O’Brien’s Flying Circus will be performing an aerial display as part of the event.

Aviation legend and television presenter Brendan O’Brien, who has more than 13,000 hours of flying time under his belt, will also attempt two world records as part of the display on Sunday, June 23.

The daredevil pilot will attempt the shortest runway length truck top touch and go for the climax of the show.

Applications have been made to the Guinness Book of World Records so that the attempt can be formally recognised and, if successful, would add to the more than 200 aviation world records held by Mr O’Brien, which are ratified by the FAI in Paris.

The attempts will be a part of O’Brien’s Flying Circus, a display of aerial theatre, which includes landing a Piper J-3 Cub on a mobile platform, and breathtaking pyrotechnics.

Matt Wilkins, Old Buckenham Airfield manager said: “We are truly staggered and delighted to welcome Brendan to the airshow in June. A familiar face from his work on Discovery Wings, Brendan is known to millions as the face of aviation, a position achieved by being one of the most respected and talented pilots currently flying. His display will be completely unforgettable and the possibility of two world records being set in a day is the stuff of dreams.”

Proceeds from the airshow will raise funds for the Leonard Cheshire Disability home at The Grove in East Carleton.

The 2013 Old Buckenham Airshow has been extended to two days, which will include aerial displays on the Sunday and displays of classic cars, military vehicles and leisure flights on the Saturday. There will also be a 1940s hangar dance on the Saturday night.

In addition, the former USAAF base will host the inaugural Military Revival next year.

The event on October 4, 5 and 6, is for all military enthusiasts and covers military hardware from 1900 to the present day.
