The real thing stands just shy of 15 inches tall and is made of 18-carat gold so it is no surprise that footie fans have been queuing up at a Cromer shop today to get their photo taken with a replica World Cup trophy.

Organised by the team at the Digital Phone Company, on High Street, the trophy is in prized position in the store’s front window until 5pm today.

Sales director, Richard King, said: “It was part of an internal competition and our employee James Ulph won it so that we could hold the competition here.

“If England continue to do well we hope to take the event, and replica trophy, to other towns.

“It’s been a bit of fun and it’s been busy with people coming in to have their photos taken.”

The all day event has allowed people to take a photo for free with the replica.

The current FIFA World Cup trophy is the second generation of the sporting prize. The first trophy, named the Jules Rimet Cup in 1946 after the founding father of the FIFA World Cup, was commissioned by FIFA to French sculptor Abel Lafleur.

Today’s trophy is 36.8cm (14.5in) tall and weighs 6,175g (13.61lbs).

The base contains two layers of semi-precious malachite and bottom side of the trophy bears the engraved year and name of each FIFA World Cup winner since 1974.
